Medicinal Music

I'm not sure what you all listen to, if it's the radio or Pandora, Spotify, etc. but ever since I found that I could pay for a radio station and not listen to commercials, I've done that.  A funny thing happened though, the online station finds songs similar to the ones I like and that is how I find new artists.  Now, I have no clue to who the popular artists are on the charts and
watching the music awards has become Greek to me.
A new artist popped up last year on my favorite station and the one song  that would play about twice a day was fun and different and I never found myself hitting the thumbs down icon.  Music plays in my store all day while I work and then in my kitchen while I cook.  It also plays when I'm cleaning house.  Singing and dancing and dancing with my cats (dancing with them against their wills), yep... we just have a blast in our little world.  Music gets me in the zone, raises the vibes and helps me get stuff done. Singing is good too.  It brings more oxygen into your body and oxygenates the blood, helping all parts of the body.  We should take a lot more cleansing breaths throughout the day.  So music is beneficial to ones mental as well as physical health.
Okay, sorry, tangent tangent.
Vance Joy is his name and ever since I must have finally hit the thumbs up on his song Rip Tide, I have been getting loads of his music and I LOVE IT!!!!!!  Then I found out last week that he was an Aussie, so I hoped onto YouTube and watched all his videos.  With great pleasure I listened to his wonderful upbeat songs and was transported through his beautiful videos filmed in Oz with the rough and rugged bush and the serene and winding shorelines.  His videos tell a story, which is always nice, since most times when I do watch a video, it seems to ruin the song because
I don't know what the heck I'm looking at.
Maybe you all know about him already and I'm the last to know, doesn't matter.  I just had to share him with you guys.  I hope you are well.  Enjoy, Heidi :)

Video - Vance Joy- From Afar

This one make me think of South Australia, not sure though if that is where it was shot.  I just love the scenery and the funky late 70's, early 80's fashion.

Video - Vance Joy - First Time

This one sent me head over heels for Vance.  How can you not want to dance and sing to this song???

Video - Vance Joy - Play with Fire

This is a fun video and I just love the winding shoreline drive.  The actor is good, so repeatable and funny, watching him grieve with his broken heart and then make peace and move on.

Let me tell you about a guy that has been on the right side of History for the past 30 years.

Image via Shepard Fairey

For the past 30 years, Bernie Sanders has fought for the Working Class, minorities, the LGBT community and the poor.  He has been on the right side of history for those 30 years and hasn't had to "evolve or flip flop" on the issues.
He fights against big corporations and Wall Street when they are cheating and rigging the system and buying up our politicians.
This is so important to me because for the past 8 years, I have been planning on migrating to Australia.  They are more Democratically Socialized than the US.  They have Universal Healthcare and a higher quality of living, $17 minimum wage, plus college education that is much less expensive than the US. I want a better future for my son and I don't see it here.  Bernie Sanders wants to expand Medicare for all, so Americans can have Universal Healthcare like all the other industrialized countries of the world. Make public college tuition free by taxing Wall St. speculators, end the disastrous trade policies that have sent millions of US jobs overseas and thousands of US factories to close up and relocate to other countries.  He wants to re-instate the Glass-Steagall Act that will force Wall Street to stop gambling with people's pensions, break up the big banks, increase minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 per hour, close the corporate loop holes allowing companies to hide profits overseas, and when that money comes back to the US, use the taxes from it to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure which will put millions of Americans back to work.  Decriminalize marijuana, end the War on Drugs and treat addiction as a health problem and not a crime and ban for profit prisons and detention centers. Stop the endless wars in the Middle East and help to rebuild their infrastructure and schools.  He is against fracking and wants to aggressively fight against climate change and transition off of fossil fuels on to renewable energy.
These are real answers to real issues that no other candidate is addressing.
He is going against the ESTABLISHMENT (corporate owned government) and admitting that he can't do it alone.
He is asking for the people to join him in a Political Revolution.
This Revolution will not be televised.
The main stream media is apart of the establishment and they don't want Bernie's message getting out to the masses.  There has been a media Black Out of Bernie's campaign.  He gets a fraction of the coverage that the other candidates receive.
This campaign will be Twitted, Posted, Facebooked, Pinned, Youtubed, Instagrammed and more.
I am calling this the Youtube election, because, you you can listen to what he has been saying for the past 30 years, it is the same message he is saying today.
Bernie predicted most of the problems that we are seeing today, you can just watch old Youtube videos of him warning his fellow politicians of the repercussions that will happen with the passing of their laws and trade agreements.
He predicted the mistake of the Iraq War, the Crash of 2008 and now the Panama Papers.
He is a once in a lifetime politician, incorruptible, honest, the epitome of integrity.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of a Polish immigrant that had lost his parents in the Nazi concentration camps.  Bernie marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and was arrested in college for protesting the segregation of the college housing.  He voted against the War in Iraq and was always for gay marriage, for paid maternity leave and is for a woman's right to choose.  One of the biggest issues of all, is getting money out of politics and over turning the Citizens United decision that states, corporations are people and money is speech.  He does not accept contributions from corporations or super PACs.  His campaign contributions are from regular people that average $27 each.  He has received more individual contributions than any other candidate in US HISTORY.  He wants campaigns to be publicly funded and for voting day to be a national holiday.
Bernie Sanders is a self proclaimed Democratic Socialist.  This is the same kind of Socialism that is found in Denmark, Finland and Norway. (basically means, your taxes pay for education and healthcare for all) It is not Communism.  Please inform yourself, there is a lot of propaganda being put out there by the establishment media.  He has been invited to the Vatican by the Pope to speak on Wealth Inequality and Climate Change.  Perhaps you don't agree with all of his stances on the issues, but ask yourself if you agree with more or less of them.  This is why I will be voting for Senator Bernard Sanders this November for President of the United States of America.
Thanks for your time.  Heidi

The Fixer Upper Craze

Since I fell down the rabbit hole of Pinterest, I haven't watched much home & garden television.
Then, because of Pinterest, I found out about, "The Fixer Upper" on HGTV.
There is several layers of this show, you're gonna love it, if you haven't heard of it yet.
Hosts / power couple, Chip and Johanna Gains  plus their 4 cute kids, live near Waco, Texas  which is just a couple of hours from me.  Johanna is an interior designer while Chip is the home remodeling carpenter.  Chip was flipping houses while going to college there in Waco when he met Johanna.  That impressed her, the two are a great match.  The show is based on families in the Waco area, having a budget and want their own Fixer Upper house.
They take some of the ugliest houses and flip them into spectacular homes.
Here are some of my favorites:

Here is another layer.  They bought and flipped the house above and turned it into a bed and breakfast, named it "The Magnolia House".  You can stay there, it's SOOOOO CUUUTE!!!

Here is the handsome couple.  Jo is so graceful, patient and creative.  She is so tender and loving with her kids. Chip tests her patients with his shenanigans in every show.  If Chip isn't doing demo, or reno, he is eating, juggling or acting like a fool, just trying so hard to make Jo laugh.  She has done multiple cart wheels in one house before she brought in the furniture.  You never know what's going to happen, it is not your typical home improvement shows.
Below is more of their wonderful work.  I love her use of neutrals with pops of wood, white and black, fabulous light fixtures, plants everywhere, busted out walls, rich wood floors, subway tiles and SHIPLAP!!!

Here are some great uses of raw natural wood.

Another layer of this show is that Johanna and Chip have a store called "Magnolia Market", that sells home decor items and antiques that she uses in the flips.  At the end of last year, they decided to buy this old mill property with giant silos in Waco to move their store to.  Their biggest flip and it is flipping amazing.

Not only do they have their store located in the building on the left, but they have a garden area and the little building in the center, I think they are turning into a bakery.  They also sell real estate, have their own book, Magnolia T-Shirts, coffee mugs and more.  Johanna also started her own furniture line as well that I LOOOOOVE! Click on the links to see for yourself.
Below are some shots of their store "Magnolia Home"

Watch The Fixer Upper on HGTV, you won't be disappointed.

Put your words into the fire.

Put your words into the fire
Watch them burn your heart's desire
Rise up in the air
In a cloud of silk and smoke and dust
Fade into the night
It's a comforting feeling with you at my side

Let me shake your honest hands
And I'll sit down beside you now
Lean our heavy heads
Of the weight of the things that are left unsaid
Don't worry about it now
'Cause in the morning they will all just be ashes on the ground

So what's been on your mind
Eating you inside
Taking all of your time
On this warm summer night
Put your words down in the fire

When we were down at sandy beach
Old man talking in young man's words
Tell me where you would like to be
Tonight don't be afraid to dream
Lean on the fire for a while
Cause in the morning it will all just be ashes on the ground

So what's been on your mind
Eating you inside
Taking all of your time
On this warm summer night
Put those words down in the fire

Butterfly Wall

To my surprise, my new iPhone takes pretty good enough pictures.
This has made it more convenient to take a shot and not have to worry if my camera battery is charged or if it even has a memory stick in it.
Hope you enjoy my Butterfly Wall that is in my store.

Progress.

I finally applied for my passport this week.  I have been telling myself for the last  2 years that I need to get it and strike it off my list of "Things to do for Moving to Australia".  Now to wait six months for it to arrive.  This month, I have started to call it my plan to move and no longer my dream to move.  Just by changing dream to plan has completely changed my view.  Before I felt hopeful that it would happen one day, but now it feels real and this is totally happening.  At the beginning of this year, I made a list of projects, I wanted to accomplish.  The main one, probably the biggest, is to finish all of the renovations on my house.  I also want to strip everything out of my house that I do not love or need.  I want every piece of paperwork shredded or filed where it needs to be.  I want a place for everything and everything in its place.  So when the time comes, I will be ready.  I am expecting chaos, but if all of these things are done, maybe less chaos.  I have an Australian resume created and a portfolio compiled of my best flower arrangements that I was able to take a pic of.  I am thinking that I need to go ahead and make a graphics design portfolio as well.  I am starting to charge for my work, so I guess I am officially a graphics designer.  Stepping down as directors from organizations and at the end of the year, I will no longer be our Farmers Market manager.  I am stream lining my life, organizing, planning, cleaning, and simplifying.  Last Fall, my family quit eating wheat, high fructose corn syrup, GMO foods, artificial anything to become healthier.  Living this lifestyle means a lot of cooking at home.  We are actually saving money because we don't eat out, which is very expensive.  My hubby lost 40 lbs. and got off his high blood pressure meds.  I have lost 20 lbs. quit having migraines and acid reflux.  Our life is now, more of us together in the kitchen cooking, playing with cats, singing and dancing and cleaning.  It's really good.  I can write a post now that Valentines day, Prom, Mothers Day and the funeral frenzy is in the past (that was a lot of flower arranging).  All I have left is graduation and then its three months of florist down time.  My son is twelve and bigger than me.  I have commissioned him to help me with all of the house projects this Summer.  He said yes, of course, because there are power tools involved.  We talk about Australia about once or twice a week.  I preach to stay in the NOW, but its hard not be excited and think of future goals.  I accept that this is one of life's great paradoxes, "have long term goals for progress, but stay in the NOW".  I hope you all are doing well.  I am sorry that Blog Land is dying.  You are welcome to follow me on Pinterest.  I have over 12,000 followers on my "You can quote me on that" board.  Those quotes have become my daily mantras, my continued education for spiritual growth and enlightenment.  They are great for becoming the best version of yourself.  Enjoy, Heidi
